Pitch

OF THE LAKE is an 87,000-word crossover dark eco-fantasy. This dual-POV, sapphic story combines the corruption arc of The Kinder Poison series by Natalie Mae with the female rage found in Where Darkness Blooms by Andrea Hannah. Think Killing Eve meets The Little Mermaid.

20-year-old mermaid, Corealina, has lost everything dear to her thanks to the human-made algal bloom that decimates Silver Lake: her mother, her love, and her home. When a childhood friend is found suffocated by the bloom, her thirst for vengeance takes over. She endures the excruciating ordeal of shedding her fins for legs and leaves her home for good to hunt down the humans responsible—risking exposure, and therefore execution to achieve her retribution. What she doesn’t expect is her ex to be the one sent to hunt her down and bring her back to silver lake.

“Oh Lilodia. I miss you so much.” I wish I could erase the sadness, the longing from my voice.

“I miss you too,” she says, her voice just as raw as mine.

She leans in and her lips brush against mine, oh so tenderly. The touch lacks the ferocity of our previous encounters on land. It is sweet and soft and so unlike any moment of intimacy we have ever shared before.

My mind swirls. If this is a game she is playing, she is winning. All I can focus on is her closeness. Her skin, cool and soft against my own and every word she speaks sinks into my pores and illuminates my core.

I tilt my head up and capture her mouth once more. Her tongue parts my lips, runs across my teeth. She presses it against a sharpened canine and the metallic flavor of her blood coats my taste buds and oh, how delightful it is. She is like a tidal wave crashing into me with all the force of the ocean behind her.

And I am stuck in her path of beautiful, utter destruction, ready to crumble at her feet.

I am at her mercy.

I want her to destroy me.
